FEEDING FRENZY! Action has built up slowly over the last year and a half at our hummingbird feeders, but today it simply did not let up; in a given 90 seconds throughout the day you might have seen Steely-vented Hummingbird, Fawn-breasted Brilliant, Green Hermit, Booted Racket-tail, Buff-tailed Coronet, Sparkling Violetear, Andean Emerald, White-bellied Woodstar, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird and Speckled hummingbird. Maybe even all of those! It really has been a veritable frenzy. The video doesnt quite convey what it might, but gives a taste... WELL! My last attempt at filming that little taste had an interesting ending, right at dusk; a Pauraque landed in the trail you can see above. GOODBYE FRENZY! It was actively hunting, not going for the hummers as far as I could see. But those babies split fast, probably straight to their protected little torpor-spots. Interesting aside: I had here-to-for not experienced the little bob those goatsuckers do; straight up and down with a little cluck. Thought I might have captured a nice recording, but just bobs and clucks. At any rate, a lovely ending to my day, as a prepare to continue my tour of our rooms, trying out beds, showers and night-time ambience for a change of pace and a bit of innkeeper quality control...
