FEET ON EARTH AND MIND IN HEAVEN Unless we are in a deep cavern or a colliery we do not walk *in* the earth. No, we walk *on* the earth with light footsteps or heavy and wherever we step we leave our print on the very atoms of our world. We bruise the grass stems and we shift the pebbles underfoot and squash the busy insects that we rarely see… while dust moves in a cloud before our toes; we never know what life forms we disturb. If we had just a little more awareness we would understand deep mysteries and know our sojourn on our planet yet depends on many forces; science shows us wonders all around us and within us, cosmic, microcosmic, even nano-level mysteries that in our ignorance we trample. Know your feet, earth people, watch with care the way they fall upon the surface of your planet… know their power and their poverty; let yourselves be humbled by the knowledge which your feet absorb for you, and know your element. It is not given you to live beneath the sea or with your own wings fly into the air. Your life is earthbound but your mind is free. Let the secrets of eternity soak into you, feet-first and by capillaries ascending to your high-crowned brain; sap rising bringing rumour of another world, a different milieu where the mystical outweighs the practical… for with your feet on earth and mind in heaven you are whole.
