FEMALE STRUCK IN PARKING LOT UPDATE 2 November 2014 Detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit are continuing to investigate an incident that occurred in a restaurant parking lot early Saturday morning. At approximately 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Deputies responded to a call regarding a hit and run traffic crash at 2490 US 1 South. The victim, identified as Robin Wetherington, St. Augustine, was hit by a 2006 Blue Dodge Pick Up, driven by a 31, yr. old St. Augustine man. The victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by air ambulance to UF Health in Jacksonville, where she remains in critical condition. During the investigation Deputies determined that the pick-up driver was involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot of nearby restaurant parking lot. During the physical altercation, the pickup driver, in an attempt to get away from subjects allegedly assaulting him, got into his vehicle and started driving back and forth in the parking lot. While accelerating rapidly in reverse, the driver backed into the victim. The driver then fled the scene of the incident. A taxi cab driver, identified as Steven Holmes, saw the vehicle fleeing the scene and followed it. He directed patrol Deputies to the vehicle in the area of Shores Blvd and Dorado Drive where a traffic stop was conducted. Numerous witnesses have been questioned and evidence has been obtained as the investigation continues.
