RENOWNED: Writer, teacher and Aboriginal language expert Bruce Pascoe will return to the Mildura Writers Festival this year to discuss his new book Dark Emu: Black Seeds: Agriculture Or Accident? Bruce will present his works and ideas at this year’s Mildura Writers Festival at a range of intimate venues. The book Dark Emu: Black Seeds: Agriculture Or Accident? reveals that Australian Aborigines were hunter-gatherers and references strong evidence of sophisticated farming and agriculture practices preceding European settlement. Bruce – who has been a publisher, editor, teacher, farmer, fisherman, Aboriginal community secretary and curriculum designer – said his findings were backed by evidence from explorers in Australia who documented these ideas in their journals and writing. The book, which took four years to complete, also touches on why the success and achievements of Aboriginal Australia isn’t included in the Australian school curriculum.
