Don’t miss this informative session with an experienced cinematographer, who has work on feature films and BBC’s high-end drama. 12:10 – 13:00 Ffilm Cymru Wales presents: Funding for Writers, Directors and Producers with Hannah Thomas & Katherin Pither Ffilm Cymru Wales supports Welsh or Wales-based writers, directors and producers with development and production funding, industry assistance and mentoring opportunities. Head of creative sector development, Hannah Thomas will guide festival goers along the process of applying for development and production support, and what this means for both their career and films. Katherine Pither will give an overview of the BFI’s Net.work scheme, which offers exciting mentoring schemes for new and emerging talent to develop their first feature films. 14:10-14:55 In Conversation with Phillip John (Director – Downton Abbey, Murphy’s Law, Being Human) Phillip John is an award winning and multi BAFTA nominated Director and Screenwriter. A Newport Film School Graduate, in his career he balances cinematic work with directing high quality network television. Phillip will speak about how he got into the industry, and give encouragement to other aspiring working class directors. He will be talking about the opportunities the internet offers young film makers, briefly speaking about and showing episodes of Svengali, a music biz satire, which he co-produced for the web. Dr G.D Jayalakshmi (Associate Head, School of Media – University of South Wales) will be interviewing Phil, and there will be a chance for you to ask questions at the end. 16:00-16:50 Writers Forum An industry panel of writers and directors – including Jasper Wary, Hannah Thomas, and Anthony Bunko – in an open discussion on pathways for new writing talent in Wales, and the art and business of writing for the stage and screen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dylan Thomas Room 2 11:30 – 12:00 Costume Chat with Emma Bevan-Hyde (Downton Abbey, Muppets Most Wanted, Into the Woods, Thor the Dark World) Emma Bevan started her journey as a costume assistant with It’s My Shout, over 10 years ago. Since then she has worked on Hollywood productions with stars such as Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep and Usher, whilst also making time to come back and become a mentor for other It’s My Shout trainees. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear her talking about her journey, with a chance to ask questions at the end. 13:10 – 14:00 From It’s My Shout to Star Wars: In Conversation with Danny Clark (Set Designer – Star Wars, Tarzan, Jack Ryan) Danny Clark is a Junior Set Designer in the feature film industry. He was previously involved with Its My Shout whilst set design in Cardiff. Since graduating from university in 2010 he has been working in the art department of various film productions including Anna Karenina, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Star Wars. His role in the art department involves model making, drafting construction plans as well as computer 3D modelling and 3D printing. Danny will discuss the way concepts, models and architectural plans make it off the page onto the set, the journey from Its My Shout training to feature film set design, and the challenging genre and architectural differences between each film project ranging from Ancient Greece to Medieval Fantasty to Science Fiction. Danny Clark will be interviewed by Meredith Lewis, one of It’s My Shout’s Production Assistants, who has a background in design and acting. 15:00 - 15:50 Get the part! From Doctor Who to Star Wars, Matthew started his film career at BBC Wales and now works on biggest Hollywood movies made in the UK. During his lecture, Matthew will talk about how he entered the film industry and what the role of a concept artist is. He will also offer advice on getting started to those thinking of a career in concept art. Followed by a Q&A session. 13:00-13:45 Composing for Film & Television with John Rea (BAFTA Award Winning Composer – Six Nations, Wildlife on One, Dr Who’s Greatest Moments). BBC Cymru Wales will move right into the heart of Cardiff, Swansea Bay Studios will continue to grow, bringing large productions to the area and S4C will continue to explore the power of Welsh-language content in the digital age.
