FG To Use NYSC Corps Members Allowance Funds To Pay ASUU Its no longer news that ASUU has been on strike for over a month now, in the recent negotiations with the committee setup by the Federal Govt., it was reported that ASUU wants about 92 Billion Naira to meet their demands. In an interview with the DG of the NYSC scheme, Brig. Gen. Okorie Alfa, the DG made known that the Minister of finance informed him that the allowances for the corps members has not been released because the FEC agreed the funds should be added to what federal govt. can provide in order to meet the demands of ASUU, so they could call off the strike and go back to classes soonest. The DG also used to opportunity to call on all corps members to remain law abiding and be patient as the scheme is doing everything possible to ensure continuous payment of their allowances “No need for protests, just be focused in your duty to the nation, give us some time, you were once students and you know what its like for ASUU to be on strike, have sympathy on your younger ones and let’s all put a stop to this strike, even if it means sacrificing your allowances for a while, its all service to the Nation” he urged A corps member serving in FCT shared his displeasure; “When most of us were students, we suffered because of ASUU strikes, now by the grace of God we’ve graduated and now serving, ASUU strike is here again to torment us, what exactly does ASUU have against nigerian youths?!
