FHHS Ladies Repeat as State Cross Country Champions! The Lady - TopicsExpress

FHHS Ladies Repeat as State Cross Country Champions! The Lady Vikings sailed into Jefferson City Saturday as the defending State Champions and they left as the defending State Champions, again. Led by senior Arnica Zitting and freshman Maddi Lee,the ladies emerged triumphant over a very fast, very deep, field of teams from across the state. They went out fast, and led at the first mile, were second after two miles and led again at three miles. Their victory was assured, and their dominance demonstrated, by Rebecca Turneys magnificent run over the last 1000 meters and her finish - the fastest in the race - over the last 180 meters. Kristen Adams, Danielle Berry, Amy Marx and Kristen Hemmersmeier rounded out the team, making it a team that would not be denied. After losing 40 percent of last years championship team, the Lady Vikings were on a mission this year - mission accomplished! This year the men joined the girls at state - one of only 16 teams to qualify. Gavin Galanes was the top finisher for the men and he was joined by Davis Fetzer,Trevor Remund, Garrett Biddle, Walker Wetter, Kyle Kirn and Austin Collier. The core of this team is the young sophomore class and the future looks very good! The coaches want to thank everyone who travelled to Jefferson City to support the teams, and a special S/O to AD Witter for his attendance. And,of course, none of this happens without the support of the parent booster club. The FH ladies have now brought home a trophy in the last five state meets (both track and cross country) - 3rd in XC in 2011; 1st in track (2012); 1st in XC (2012); 3rd in track (2013); and 1st in XC in 2013! We will start a winter running program in 2 weeks. We need sprinters, jumpers and throwers for the spring track season. Lets continue to be a school of champions! Congratulations to all the athletes!
