FIBROCYSTIC BREAST CONDITION=breast that re fibrocystic have an exaggerated response to hormonal fluctuation of menstrual cycle.After ovulation 1-2 weeks before periods,the breast develop cysts,retain fluild and enlarge.they may become tender and sometimes very painful.the pain can extend into armpit or shoulder area.After the periods the breast shrinks in size,becomes less lumpy and less tender. Fibrocystic breast re normally diagnosed by symptoms that occur before the periods and examination,it is believed that 50% percent of woman do experience fibrocystic breast disease and women under 20-50 years will normally have the symptoms untill menpause step in.the most common symptoms is that the breast becomes tender or painful and engorged before the period.occassionally a breast cyst will grow larger than usual and can cause pain in one particular spot and can be felt as a distinct lump.the pain can be mild or severe and may not require any medication.if you have this condition,try not to examine your breast before periods,do it after periods else you will be uneccessary alarmed.most women may not need any medication,even if it is needed,it will just be over the counter Ibuprofen,if more relief is needed,your doctor may prescribe a mild diurectic to start with,if there is no response,your gynecologist can prescribe birth control pills or other medication like Danazol,Bromocriptine or Tamoxifen. Decreasing the amount of caffeine and Nicotine if you re a smoker may help in lessening the symptoms.
