The ban came following an alleged interference by the country’s government in her football federation. FIFA requires every football association to manage their affairs independently, with no influence from third parties. “The Fifa emergency committee has decided to provisionally suspend the Cameroonian Football Association (FECAFOOT) with immediate effect, on account of government interference,” the football governing body said in a statement. It added that a committee would be set up to revise FECAFOOT’s statutes and organise elections, and the suspension would be lifted “once the country authorities allow the new normalisation committee to enter the FECAFOOT headquarters and to carry out its activities unhindered”. Cameroon were on the brink of qualifying for the next round of the World Cup qualifiers after they were awarded three points for a game they lost to Togo, who fielded an ineligible player in the World Cup qualifying game. It would be recalled that in 2010, FIFA banned Nigeria from qualifying for the African Nations Cup due to government interference in the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Oginni T
