FIGHTING DISTRACTIONS TODAY! My Confession... Hopefully it will help somebody... Getting focused during my prayer time this morning was quite a challenge. Rather than sharing all the distractions (like the wilting plant in the prayer room, the stacks of paper at my Bible study space, anticipating a phone seminar upcoming in 90 min, an important monthly prayer call in 75 min (schedule conflict!!), etc.), Ill tell you what I did that worked: As soon as I rolled out of bed and completed my morning hygiene routine, I headed for my prayer room. I refused to look at my phone with its messages and Facebook fellowship temptation (even more tempting when you work out of your home and have a flexible schedule; plus I love you guys--you are so faithful in your support and feedback when I need it). There! My body was positioned for prayer; so far, so good. Then my mind started drifting all over the place, so I sang a couple of worship songs out loud to re-focus. I stopped and breathed deeply, inhaling His presence. I have a one-hour prayer guide I developed to keep me focused {Im thinking of making it available to those on my official mailing list at some point} so I followed it--for the most part....until... I started reading the Scriptures; I was all over the board again... From Genesis to Daniel, to Matthew. Decided to just focus on the book of Matthew--only the red letter passages (the words of Jesus). I settled in Matt. 23... Wow, Jesus called the scribes and Pharisees HYPOCRITES 8 times from verses 18-33! I thought Id better read that closely to make sure I wasnt found in this Woe passage; I hate hypocrisy. Lesson learned: You gotta be INTENTIONAL from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same! Tomorrow Ill be more focused. Im showing up in the prayer room with a STRATEGY. I will NOT be a shallow Christian--nor a hypocrite in any area. Join me in my quest. Now, Im heading to my home gym (1st time this year!). I tell you this DISCIPLINE thing requires some serious INTENTIONALITY!
