FIGHTING FOR FREDDY NOW that a special Crown prosecutor and a Woodstock judge have thrown out the DNR charges against Liberal candidate for MLA ANDY HARVEY as being baseless and without legal or factual foundation whatsoever, he has moved back on top as the candidate to beat in this riding in the coming provincial vote. He never stopped campaigning - or protesting his innocence - after the Tories lobbed that bombshell - based on a 2011 incident - in the middle of the current campaign. The timing of those charges was so obviously contrived to do maximum damage to the party most likely to win this election that it is even more likely to win than before, especially here. Even stalwart Conservatives, not to say hidebound Tories, were put off by the Machiavellian machinations - and you dont have to look that up since these dirty doings practically define it. COLIN LOCKHART gives every indication that is heart is not in this campaign - or in the prospect of serving as MLA. He has said he will not step down from his demanding post of Chief of Staff of the Upper Valley hospital at Waterville and certainly had misgivings about the timing and nature of the fraudulent (in more ways than one) charges against his main opponent. Under JOE GEE the NDP is likely to bring in multiples of its usual support here. No other candidate has worked so hard or so long or so imaginatively for his party and his own beliefs. But I believe the end result will be A LOT more surprising than anyone expects. The Green Party with GARTH FARQUAHR is stuck with the same old vicious circle of thinking holding it back from taking its rightful place in the sun. People dont vote for it because people dont vote for it. But someday... Maybe if its smart enough to recruit Joe Gee, probably nationally, IF hes available after Sept. 22. But right now that is very far from clear. I think hes going to surprise the people who have already been watching the current Fight for Fredericton with raised eyebrows. Small wonder.
