Spearheaded by McAvoys stunningly effective lead turn as morally repugnant Bruce Robertson, Filth is an audacious, affecting and hilarious character study. Its an uncomfortable place to be, but McAvoys portrayal - which often breaks the fourth wall to address the audience - is so mesmerising that our gaze cant shift from his sunken eyes, cracked lips or wispy ginger beard.
