FINALLY ABOUT CALORIES ONCE & FOR ALL ::: The calorie is a calorie theory in eat anything u want but just watch your calories works beautifully for food mega-corporations, distributors, and farmers because it doesnt discriminate food. It just says buy and eat all of our foods -- just dont eat a lot of it. Problem with that theory is (a) basic (scientific) biochemical principles dont agree because you have things called hormones, and (b) they dont take into account millions of skinny-fat folks who look thin but unhealthy as shit from poor food choice. If people did discriminate calories theyd pick a certain food over another thus resulting in some mega-corporations, distributors, and farmers to lose revenue while others generate more. Thats why the media and government keeps pushing calories on you despite what the scientific community says. So should you count calories? Probably doesnt hurt to. Portion count - whether from calories and/or macros holds a big place in healthy habits. Some should count more than others. Some should just focus on amount of protein/fat/carbs instead. Really comes down to your eating habits and goal. But it doesnt take a genius to know a bowl of Lucky Charms and sweet potato could both have the same calories, but they certainly not equal in the end result. As Jade Teta said, think of calories this way: Imagine you want to travel to a new city -- say youre flying from LA to Salt Lake City. Once you fly to the airport -- then what? How do you get to your hotel room? Rental car GPS? Tell a cab driver? Walk with Google maps GPS in hand? You see, calories may take you to your general location, but without a GPS youre screwed because youll never get to your actual address. Flying are your calories. GPS are your hormones. So yeah calories do count but it dont mean they all the same and you can eat anything. Just because you count calories dont mean youre eating healthy. At the heart of it food quality matters and usually calorie-counters are guilty of eating low calories at the expense of inferior quality food, snacks, high sugar, and inadequate protein. Addressing your quality (adequate protein & whole foods, not processed) of food while not over-eating (counting calories) is the first step towards eating well. Not just counting how many calories your soda has cause thats just sheer bullshit. >>> Now go watch the documentary Fed-Up. -Coach Arin
