FINDING ALWAN WAS LIKE STUMBLING UPON a rare, lush oasis of art, music and literature for me. Not only do they hold spirited events in their beautiful, airy space, they also exhibit the work of marginalized performers and artists who might otherwise be overlooked. Thanks to them, the craft of the Middle Eastern community in New York has a space to flourish and grow.
