FINE WINTERS DAY IN THE MAKING Good morning. Well snow didnt quite make it back to sea level last night. We had sleet and graupel showers at times. Today sees increasingly fine conditions with light winds once SW winds die out. Heavy frosts developing for many tonight! KAIKOURA / NORTH CANTERBURY Temperature High: 9 degrees Overnight Low: 4 degrees (Kai) -2 (North Cant) Wind Direction: SW Rainfall: 0mm Details: Fine and cloudy periods with cold southwest winds to begin with, particularly about the Kaikoura Coast . Into the afternoon expect longer fine spells with southwesters dying away. CHRISTCHURCH Temperature High: 9 degrees Overnight Low: -3 degrees Wind Direction: SW Rainfall: 0mm Details: Mainly fine weather apart from the odd area of morning cloud, mainly about the hills at first. Cold Southwest breezes dying out to light winds with heavy frosts developing tonight. BANKS PENINSULA Temperature High: 8degrees Overnight Low: 0 degrees Wind Direction: SW Rainfall: 1-3mm Details: A few early morning showers about the eastern fringes of the Peninsula, falling as snow above 200m. Showers clearing everywhere by mid-morning and long fine spells developing. Cold Southwesters dying away to light winds. Cold conditions tonight! SOUTH + MID CANTERBURY Temperature High: 10 degrees Overnight Low: 0 degrees Wind Direction: Light Winds Rainfall: 0mm Details: Fine with heavy morning frosts for some at first. Plenty of blue sky and light winds. Frosty conditions returning this evening. CANTERBURY HIGH COUNTRY Temperature High: 10 degrees Overnight Low: -4 degrees Wind Direction: Light Winds Rainfall: 0mm Details: Fine with morning frosts, then blue dome skies and light winds.
