FIRE DEPT PLANS WILDERNESS SEARCH DRILL On Saturday, October 4, between 9 am and 3 pm, the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department, in cooperation with the Roxbury Land Trust, will conduct a large-scale wilderness search and rescue drill. This drill, which took nearly 3 months to plan will be held at the RLTs Mine Hill Preserve. The RVFD, with assistance from Roxbury Volunteer Ambulance; Bridgewater Volunteer Fire and Ambulance; Washington Volunteer Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance will train on locating and rescuing three lost hikers, portrayed by actors, in the step and rugged terrain of the Preserve. For the first time, these agencies will work with a highly-trained canine search and rescue team. Resources in Search and Rescue is an all-volunteer, nationally credited canine search and rescue unit based out of Monroe, CT. Eagle One, an all volunteer police search and rescue helicopter based out of Stratford, CT, will also be used, weather permitting. State Police and DEEP personnel will also be participating. Thanks to Roxbury Fire Department Asst. Chief Mike Tiberio for coordinating the drill and to the Roxbury Land Trust for allowing the use of the Preserve for this training.
