It began in late July as the result of human activity. The exact cause is still being investigated. The fire had reached a very inactive state and was drawing to a close, but with the hot weather recently, it came roaring back to life. It is burning on the Klamath National Forest near the small community of the Forks of the Salmon. This fire is also known as the Forks Complex now. However, the Butler Fire is the only active fire causing any concern in the complex. The other two fires are fully contained and in mop up and rehabilitation mode.
