"FIRST AND THE LAST CASE" till date ---------------------------------------------- When I was 2nd yr student at GOMCO one day during vacations I made mind to visit and meet a 10th class friend living in nearby village. The friend told me about his cousin who developed typical fits followed by fall and convulsions, and was under treatment but without satisfaction. I thought it to be epilepsy, but verified it by consulting Pharmacology book after completing vacations. Made it clear about effective drug of choice. On the subsequent visit to home I again went to friend and that day met the patient also, who showed me the medication strip he was taking. A single tablet to be taken three times daily...........I advised him and asked him to stop present medication. told him the relevant information. His fits were controlled to the extent that he got married. But by stopping the drug after 3 yrs of use, he again had fits. Now he, with his father and my friend came to my hostel room, was an intern at that time. I was thinking of contacting some faculty in Medicine department/ at least change the drug. But Friend said " ......Sanu eh golian mil nahin rahin kiton bas eh dilva do (we are not getting these tablets (Dilantin) from any chemist shop, please help us.) Patiala for them was 60 Km away, they had came to me not RH Patiala in relation to management of epillepsy. This was the first and last patient of epilepsy, to whom I advised treatment at my own level successfully, till date. This comes out to be like a story for me.
