FIRST CITY ART CENTER POST-BFA GLASS INTERNSHIP First City Art Center Post-BFA Glass Internship The First City Art Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to arts education and community outreach. First City is proud to offer a 6-month internship to recent graduates entering the field of studio glass. The internship will provide professional experience in an active public-access studio. Working under the supervision of the Glass Arts Fellow, the intern will gain an in-depth understanding of maintenance and operation of a variety of glass-working equipment, assisting in programming, and working with glass makers of all levels. Interns can expect to work up to 20 hours per week and should expect to lift up to 50 lbs. in their regular duties. Internship terms run from January 15st-June 30, July 1st-December 31st. Deadline for Spring 2015 is December 5th. Duties Charging Furnace Monitoring Cold Shop/Flame Shop General Cleaning/Organization projects in Glass Facilities Preparing for and attending major fundraising events Serving as Teaching Assistant for a variety of classes, including glass survey offered by Pensacola State College Assisting Glass Arts Fellow in Technical/Facility projects Assisting Glass Arts Fellow in Production Completing other tasks as required Benefits Personal work time in glass shops (3 hours hot shop per week, 5 hours flame shop per week, unlimited access to cold shop. Hours beyond may be rented at the Glass Guild/Member rate) Opportunities to demonstrate during events Opportunities to propose/teach workshops Opportunities to sell personal work during certain events and in the gallery Qualifications BFA in glass or equivalent experience, graduation date within one year of start date Ability to work with the public in all ages Strong work ethic and commitment to community service Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
