FIRST RUSSIAN-INDIAN YOUTH INNOVATION SUMMIT HELD IN NEW DELHI (PART II) At an impressive ceremony, organised at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi on December 11, 2014, the First Russian-Indian Youth Innovation Summit was held. The summit was inaugurated jointly by Mr. Denis Manturov, Minister of Trade & Industry, Government of the Russian Federation, and Mr. Amitabh Kant, Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. An informative as well as innovative Exhibition “From Russia with Progress” followed the summit. Other dignitaries, who participated in the inaugural ceremony, comprised Mr. Mikhail Shamolin, President & CEO, Sistema JSFC, Mr. Andrei Dubovskov, President & CEO, MTS Group, Mr. Dmitry Shukov, CEO-SSTL, and Mr. Fedor Rozovskiy, Director, Russian Centre of Science and Culture. The exhibition was part of the Russian-Indian Youth Innovation Summit to celebrate the first international contest for young innovators from Russia and India. Literally, the exhibition was a world of modern innovations, a showcase of progress that Russia has brought to the world. The summit showcased the top 11 projects identified through MTS iNNOVATSii—a multi-country initiative to identify innovative ideas across disciplines to make the world a better place. The summit was aimed at celebrating some of the most notable Russian inventions that made an impact on the course of human history and become Russia’s indelible contribution to global progress. In his key-note address, Russian Trade and Industry Minister Mr. Denis Manturov said that the summit represented a new stage in the development of Russian-Indian relations, scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. “Telecommunications are not only the fastest growing sector of the economy, but also a great opportunity for innovative development of other areas. Thanks to them, there are such formats together telecommunicating as international project teams and R&D centres. We see a great future in the creation of such initiatives on a wide range of industries and technology areas”, the Minister said. According to the Minister, the representatives of Russia and India can work in the largest Russian research centres and Indian technical institutions with the opportunity to conduct research at the highest level. In turn, at the stage of bringing to the production of new scientific developments, it can take part in more than a dozen industry-specific engineering centres, which are based on the most titled Russian technical universities. “I have no doubt that the joint efforts of Russia and India will be able to seriously push the current leaders in the global technology race. Our country can and go fast and to catch up and overtake”. In his interesting observation, Mr. Mikhail Shamolin pointed out that the summit was a great step forward in furthering the exchange of ideas among the students and professionals from Russia and India. The summit not only celebrated some of the most important Russian inventions that have made a notable contribution to human history but also provided a glimpse into the future by showcasing innovative and futuristic ideas project identified through MTS iNNOVATSii. As part of the event, the winners of MTS iNNOVASTii were felicitated and handed over their winner trophies--an apple, signifying innovation. MTS iNNOVATSii identified a total of 11 projects—five from India and six from Russia. The winners from Russia are on an educational trip to India, and the Indian winners will be leaving for an all-expenses trip to Moscow: the travel itinerary will include interactions with senior executives from MTS Russia and Sistema JSFC, along with a visit to the state-of-art innovation Centre in Moscow.
