FIRST SWING PROGRAMME CONTINUES TO NURTURE RISING GOLF TALENT It was a busy month for the SADGA ‘First Swing Programme (FSP)’ in the Western Cape. King David Golf Course hosted the NOMADS FSP Inter-Schools on the 17th June where they had 5 of the FSP schools playing in the competition. The 3 best golfers who have reached Level 3 & 4 in the program represented their respective schools at the competition. Participating schools were: Western Province: Astra, Filia, Tembaletu with coach Edwin Meyer Boland: Eden School with Coach Kulk Martinus South Peninsula: Carpe Diem with Coach Carlo Kok On Tuesday 24th June the King David Golf Course once again hosted a NOMADS FSP Golf Day Road Show for Western Province and Boland Schools. It was a wonderful day of putting, chipping, driving and, most importantly, career guidance from the King David staff. Canon was also at the day handing out the new Canon FSP T-shirts to all the Juniors. The children were rotated between the different stations that were set up at King David Golf Course which included… o ProShop & Locker Room attendant career guidance talk o Playing on the Modified Golf Environment in the hall o Putting on the outside putting green o Driving Range o Photos and Certificates for all the learners. On Friday 27 June the FSP Deaf Juniors participated in the NOMADS FSP Deaf Junior Tournament. The tournament was broken into 2 divisions – A division which is Level 4 golfers who have official golf handicaps and the B division with Level 3 golfers who still need to qualify for a SAGA handicap. The incentive is to move up to Level 4 and receive golf course membership is to shoot 108 without any rings. After golf on Saturday, the group was taken to Cave Golf at the V&A Waterfront. The Cave golf competition was won by Oom Kulk, Darren, Jaco & Simpiwe with 193 points. Daryl de Beer from the NOMADS joined the Juniors and also handed out the trophies and medals. The deaf juniors, coaches and interpreter were hosted by TSOGO Sun at Century City which was a great treat for them. The Sports Trust is a proud sponsor of SADGA.
