FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY • I know that Toronto MUST BALANCE it’s budget using proper funding tools. I will fight to use the revenue that is raised from collecting our property taxes responsibly and effectively. • I believe that Council made the right decision by abolishing the Personal Vehicle Tax. I will lead the fight at City Council to finish the job and ABOLISH the Municipal Land Transfer Tax. This regressive tax is detrimental to the Toronto real estate market. This tax punishes homebuyers –- making it difficult for growing families to own their own homes. This is no way to treat our own kids. • I believe the City should be and is a fair employer. They provide fair remuneration, generous benefits and pensions to their employees. I also believe many would agree that City employees are represented by a powerful union. • I propose that a strong and forceful new policy position must be immediately adopted and communicated to city unions. Once I have helped establish and communicate that position, I will be resolute in sticking to it. • In my many years of public service, I have never been confused about one very simple fact: the union represents the employee and Council represents THE TAXPAYER. I WILL ALWAYS TREAT YOUR TAX DOLLARS WITH RESPECT – I KNOW HOW HARD YOU WORK TO EARN THEM.
