FISHING UPDATE- 6.16.14 Otter Tail Lakes Country Walleyes are being pulled from depths of 10-15 feet on jigs tipped with minnows, and on snell hooks with leeches on lakes throughout the Otter Tail Lakes County. Northern pike are slamming sucker minnows in similar depths as the walleyes. Weedy areas and docks are giving up bass to anglers using leeches and spinner baits. Crappies and sunnies remain in 3-5 feet of water, hitting crappie minnows, wax worms, and night crawlers. 800-423-4571; ottertailcountry Detroit Lakes The shiner bite is becoming less effective in catching walleyes, with leeches and crawlers on live bait rigs turning almost as many fish. Walleyes are starting to transition to cabbage weeds close to sharp breaks to deeper water. Fish are holding in 9-13 feet of water on some lakes, and in 16-22 feet off the breaks in the clearer lakes. Muskie anglers had a great opener on lakes in the Detroit Lakes area. Pelican and Big Detroit produced the most fish, but Sallie and Beers lakes also gave up a few. Crappies and sunnies are still in the shallow weeds, hitting jigs and plastics, jigs and minnows, and pieces of crawler, small leeches or small minnows on jigs or hooks under bobbers. Bass action has been good in the shallow weed cover, with fish hitting jigs and plastics, crankbaits, and spinners. Smallmouth bass are coming from the rocks on Cormorant, Lida, Island and White Earth lakes. Northern pike are active almost everywhere, hitting just about everything!
