FIT FOODIE FRIDAY♥ Health Food Fake-Outs. Stroll down any supermarket aisle & youll find shelf after shelf of foods that sound so good for you, they might as well be vitamins. The thing is a lot of healthy food is anything but. Just because something is high in protein or fiber doesnt mean its nutritious. Here are 5 of the many imposters! Fat-free salad dressing- sugar & chemical fillers replace the fat. Better bet-whisk Olive oil, Dijon mustard, Balsamic, & lemon. You actually want a bit of that healthy fat to max out the absorption of fat soluble vitamins from your veggies. Veggie Chips- most made mainly from potato flour & small amounts of vegi extract or powder= little to no nutritional value. Some brands are made from whole veggies but most are still deep fried & heavily salted. Better bet- Kale Chips- which are baked, easy to make at home, & packed with vitamins A & K. Wraps- if you think your getting your veggies ordering a spinach wrap think again. Spinach powder is less then 2%, and the carbs are not the complex kind that keep you energized. Better bet-Small or med whole wheat tortillas with 4 or more grams of fiber or whole wheat bread. Try pairing half the wrap or sandwich with a salad or fruit. Wasabi Peas- Sounds harmless but are coated with cornstarch, flour, oil, sugar, & salt. Better Bet- Handful of dry roasted soy beans or almonds. Both come in Wasabi flavors & pack 3times as much protein. Dried Cranberries- Naturally tart, a 1/3c of the dried kind is loaded with 25grams of added sugar. This is why dried have 123cal per serving & fresh have 15! Better bet- At the salad bar choose fresh fruit like apples or grapes & on the go opt for dried apricots which have no added sugar.
