FIVE ARRESTED FOLLOWING ROBBERY, TRENTHAM. Police were called to Trentham Road just after 11.10am Monday after a cash delivery driver raised the alarm. He had been threatened by at least two men, believed to have been in possession of a firearm, whilst returning to his vehicle on the car park near the Hem Heath public house. Fortunately the security guard was not injured. The offenders fled the scene with a substantial amount of cash. As a result of urgent inquiries police have now arrested five people – three men and two women - in connection with the incident. They have all been taken to the force’s Northern Area Custody Facility at Etruria where they will be questioned. A red Toyota Celica – containing a quantity of cash – has also been seized in Hanley. This will now be forensically examined. A detailed investigation into the incident is underway by officers, who are appealing for witnesses to come forward. The five suspects, who are all from Stoke-on-Trent, remain in custody for questioning. Detectives recovered a second suspect vehicle, a green Vauxhall Corsa, in the Longton area yesterday afternoon. It’s believed to have been used by offenders as an initial getaway vehicle before they transferred to the Celica to leave the Longton area. They will also continue to carry out inquiries at the scene this afternoon including taking witness statements and gathering CCTV from the locality. Anyone with information is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 202 of June 3, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
