FIVE GOOD SCRIPTURES By Wes Davis Growing up, both of my parents worked - my Dad at the neighborhood Luckys grocery store and my Mom at the Elks club. Because both of my parents were born in the greater Tacoma area to parents in their 40s, I was fortunate enough to have grandparents in my life who had a ton of wisdom and time on their hands. So when I got home from school, often it was my grandma, Molly Texstrum who was there. And every time she was there I knew what that meant. Before I could go in the backyard to shoot baskets, I had to go over my Scriptures from Sunday. On the counter was stack of quarters (usually 4) and sliced apples (she always took off the peel). I would quote whatever scriptures we were working on: the 10 commandments (Exodus 20), the Beattitudes (Matthew 5), the 23rd Psalm, the Lords Prayer (Matthew 6), the Romans Road (Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9), etc, etc, etc. (Email me if you want My Grandmas Big 10 - [email protected]) I dont believe I hugged her each time and said, Thank you, Grandma for INVESTING IN MY LIFE! I think I just said, Can I go out and play now? But looking back, Grandma Molly was one of the biggest influences in my life. Sometime when I was in Junior High, my Grandma Molly died (or as Jesus would say fell asleep). Now that I cant see her...I miss her a lot. So I guess I will have to wait to say thank you and save the hug for heaven. Until then...I think I will just live out Scriptures that she taught me and pass them on to others. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. ROMANS 8:28 NLT #4 | IF ITS NOT GOOD, GOD IS NOT DONE. And I am certain that God who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. PHILIPPIANS 1:6 NLT #5 | GOOD THINGS PLANNED. For we are Gods masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. EPHESIANS 2:10 NLT
