FIVE THINGS EVERY VOTER SHOULD KNOW ABOUT JUDICIAL CAMPAIGNS Did you that there are special rules regulating judicial campaigns? Below are five of the more interesting Pennsylvania Campaign Rules that you may not know. • Judges are prohibited from discussing how he/she might decide cases. That means regardless of how he/she may be asked or how many facts are provided, a candidate for judge can not say how he/she will decide. However, a judge may generally state his/her personal views on legal, political or other issues. • Candidates for judges also may not make promises about their conduct in office other than they will act with integrity and impartiality. • Judicial candidates may cross file and run both as a Republican and Democrat without the sponsorship of either party. The goal of this rule is to minimize partisan politics in the Courts. • Candidates for judge may not personally ask for money for his/her campaign nor may he/she personally accept donations to his/her campaign. • The first day to circulate and file a petition for Republicans and Democrats in Berks County is Feb. 17, 2015. The last day to circulate and file a petition is March 10, 2015.
