FIVE YEARS AGO Unhooked My alarm clock woke me up at 4:15 A.M. this morning. It is January 22th, the day that I have been looking forward to for ten weeks. After I had showered and shaved I woke Treva up so that she could start getting ready. We were late leaving for Savannah and didn’t leave until 6:15 A.M. Today was the day to have this feeding tube removed. We arrived at Memorial Health University Medical Center at 7:37 A.M., just a few minutes late. I checked in with the receptionist at Day Surgery while Treva parked the car. A few minutes later I was summoned by an administrative assistant who took my $150.00 co-pay. Treva joined me for a few minutes. The administrative assistant ushered me to my prep room where a nurse instructed me to dress for my operation. After putting on the purple paper gown and blue footies, Treva joined me in the room. The anesthesiologist checked in on me and finally Dr. Garber. At 9:50 A.M. the nurses rolled me out the door of my room headed for the operating room. Tommy approached as I left the room. Treva and he rejoined Mama in the waiting area. Once in the operating room I was transferred to another bed. A technician placed a mask over my face and asked me to take big breaths. I did so for less than thirty seconds. The next thing I know, I was awake and it was 10:15 A.M. I learned from Treva that Dr. Garber removed the tube successfully without cutting me open. Apparently, a stitch was holding it inside my intestines. The doctor burnt off the internal skin which had been pulled through my abdomen by the tube. I redressed and left the hospital at 11:30 A.M. Mama, Tommy, Treva, and I went to Carey Hilliards and ate lunch. Afterwards, Treva and I stopped at the mall for a few minutes. We were home by 3:00 P.M. We ate a sub sandwich from “A Taste of Philly”. At 11:30 P.M. we had the urge for a frosty; so, we got one. It was a good day. Thank you, Lord for answered prayers.
