FL Senator Marco Rubio has a problem with Cubans getting exile in the U.S. and then going back for visits: “The Cuban Adjustment Act exists for people who are refugees and exiles… He has a legitimate point. If Cubans who flee from there are in so much danger, how can they go back for visits? Me thinks most Cubans who come here do so for economic reasons. Instead of prohibiting Americans from visiting Cuba, we need to stop giving Cubans automatic refugee status. Are they really any more deserving than Haitians? Or Indians? If we supposedly hate communism so much, how come Chinese and Vietnamese dont get automatic refugee status like the Cubans? Me thinks that might have to do with those countries having favored nation status with our corporations. Sorry, but I think its time to get rid of the Cuban Adjustment Act or to let ALL people looking for economic opportunities into the U.S. For all of you who complain that immigrants get public assistance as soon as they get here, thats mostly only true of Cubans. And if we traded with Cuba and could travel there freely, that would help both of our economies. Time to get over the stupid cold war. Hardly anyone agrees with this ridiculous position any more. I doubt most Cuban Americans agree with it.
