FLASH FLOODS IN UTTARKHAND, INDIA The Flash Floods in Uttarkhand have caused unprecedented destruction and damage in about 40,000 sq. kilo metre area affecting thousands of people causing an estimated 5000 people dead and hundreds of thousands affected. Hundreds of villages and towns have been totally devastated and people have lost everything and are starving. Indian armed forces have done a heroic job ishelping the people. Indian NGOs have also done a great job in cooperation of the Government agencies. Rehabilitation of the affected people will be a herculean task and may take several years. The immediate challenge is to provide food, clothing and temporary shelters to thousandsof affected families. Even people from the rich and middle classes have lost everything and there is no local support system to help them. In such a situation, any help from any corner is the need of the hour. We appeal to people to come forward and help their brothers and sisters affected in Uttarkhand monetarily. Contact NGOs / Government Agencies workingfor this purpose.
