‘FLIGHT OF THE DUFFYS’ CIRCLES HARBOR TO SUPPORT DUFFY DUFFIELD Some 120 Duffy boats took to the Harbor en masse on Saturday, to celebrate Duffy Duffield’s 45 years of contributions to the city and his campaign for City Council. After gathering in the Turning Basin around Gary Hill’s tugboat the William B, the festive armada set off on a course around Balboa and Lido islands, proudly displaying their Duffy campaign signs and tooting greetings to passing boats and supporters on shore. The parade of Duffy boats was followed by a post-Flight VIP BBQ at the Duffy Boat Rental facility that drew more than 100 supporters and raise $20,000 for Duffy’s council campaign. “Forty-five years ago, as a teenager, I invented the Duffy Boat,” Duffy says. ”It has been a great adventure, and I owe much of my success to our spectacular Harbor and the Newporters who have supported me.” The event was organized by Billy Dutton. Among those participating in the Flight or attending the barbecue were Duffy’s fellow council candidates Kevin Muldoon and Scott Peotter, Shannon and Byron Tarnutzer, Sue Werner and John Hagestad, Greg Brackovich, Bill Peterson, Lou Grasso, Pete Pallette, Kurt and Kelly English, and Assemblyman and supervisor candidate Allan Mansoor,.
