FLOOD ADVISORY FOR: El Paso ...The urban and small stream flood advisory remains in effect until 415 pm mdt for west central el paso county... At 236 pm mdt...Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding in the advisory area. One to one and a half inches of rain has already fallen over the northern side of colorado springs. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Colorado springs...Air force academy...Peterson afb and cimarron hills. Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to sweep vehicles off the road. When encountering flooded roads make the smart choice...Turn around...Dont drown. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams...And ponding of water in urban areas... Highways...Streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots.
