FLOOD RELIEF UPDATE: Shupikayi Nyirenda of The Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) came to the Lilongwe City Mall to receive the donations that the Flood Church has been collecting for the relief of those affected by flash floods in the south of Malawi. She received two trucks worth of around 200 boxes, bags, and parcels containing materials worth approximately 5 million Kwacha ($10,000). She also received checks worth K130,000 for the transportation of the supplies to the flood victims. The materials include food, clothing, beddings, detergents, and mosquito nets, all desperately needed in the 15 flood-affected districts where more than 200,000 people have been displaced and 180 people have been killed. Under the leadership of Paul Chiunguzeni and with help from other aid agencies and partners, the Department of Disaster Management Affairs in the Office of the Vice-President is leading the effort to rescue people from the flooded areas. The goal is to bring the victims to high ground where they can be sheltered, fed, and treated in the short term until they see their lives rehabilitated, their livelihoods restored, and their communities rebuilt in the long term. Thanks to the responsiveness of Flood Church, the generosity of Lilongwes residents, and the services of the DoDMA, these supplies will reach someone whose days have been turned into night and whose broken heart could use the whisper of the God who says: When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you...For I am the Lord your God. (Isaiah 43:2-3) Now if you are in Lilongwe on Saturday, January 24, come or send a young person to the Flood Church at City Mall at 1:30pm to attend the Umodzi Show, a benefit hip-hop and R&B concert by various artists who have agreed to perform for free so that all the proceeds from the K1000 entry fee collected from each person at the door can go towards our ongoing mobilization of resources for the flood victims. NOONE can do EVERYTHING, but EVERYONE can do SOMETHING. When we all work together as a team, we discover that the word TEAM truly stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. #OperationWarmHeart #NdifeAmodzi
