FLORIDA CAN BE ENERGY-INDEPENDENT WITHOUT DRILLING ONE MORE GAS OR OIL WELL. We can produce enough renewable fuels in Florida to eliminate our need for gasoline and diesel within 15 years or less. Today, Florida uses about 12.4 billion gallons of gasoline and diesel per year, costing over $42 billion and generating over 121 million tons of CO2 each year. Biofuels are carbon-neutral (they use up as much CO2 as they produce when burned) so we can eliminate the CO2 emissions. By keeping the $42 billion per year re-circulating in Florida, Floridas economy would grow by at least 20%, supporting over 1.2 million more jobs. By reducing the cost of fuel Floridians would have direct savings of about $20 billion, too.
