FLYING COFFINS IN NIGERIA... [THE NIGERIAN AVIATION INDUSTRY: A MONUMENT OF FAILURE AND SHAME] In modern time, the aviation industry is a desideratum to provide safe, comfortable and efficient transportation. No doubt about the highly sophisticated means of transportation it has. But, wait for a while! In Nigeria today, what has become of the Nigerian Aviation industry? Today, the name Nigerian Aviation industry conjures up chaos, fear, nightmare and death in the minds of people. I woke up one morning to hear that an aircraft belonging to the Associated Airlines conveying the corpse of former Ondo state governor crashed, minutes after take off at the local wing of the Lagos Airport. The plane had 20 people onboard.- Channelstv; 4th October, 2013. It was alleged that 14 was killed. Nigeria has recorded so many air mishaps involving passenger planes since it came into existence as a state, most especially in the last decade. If we consider the timeline of air mishaps in Nigeria intently, you will discover that it is over 40 times starting from the Kano crash of BOAC Argonaut in 1956. When will the Nigerian Government discourage or stop completely the importation of these flying coffins you call airplanes? Are the authorities of the Nigerian Aviation industry cynical, greedy and wicked? Yes I say, for allowing or importing flying coffins in the guise of discarded/second-hand airplanes. We deem Nigerian leaders including those of the aviation industry to be highly learned. But, with the anomalies happening in the aviation industry, I see them as monument of shame, learned my foot. Any person or government that pays attention to materialism at the expense of human life is an anomaly and belongs to the kingdom of darkness. Can we bring back the number of loved ones killed in the litany plane crash? The blood of those killed are crying to God: all who are involved in one way or the other about importing these flying coffins, or not doing proper check-up on them before take off will not go unpunished before the living God! In conclusion, the aviation industry is intended to provide safe, comfortable and efficient transportation. The Nigerian government and the Aviation industry should shun greed, cynicism or any other evil vice in terms of importing airplanes. Nigeria is not a dumping ground for discarded/second-hand plane. We should stop wasting innocent lives in the pretext of transporting them. The government should allow or import only brand new airplanes into the country, and then be truely sorry for its misdemeanour or evil. Thanks!
