FLYING: Happy #Friday, and #TGIF! Im sure many of you are enjoying either a nice long recovery from a delightful Thanksgiving meal or are up and about due to Black Friday, whether you are a shopper or an employee selling various goods with deep discounts. The Black Friday shopping experience doesnt exist here in Japan, by the way. ;) I wanted to share a little bit about my flying experience with Asiana Airlines when I traveled to and from the Philippines earlier this month. This is a personal review consisting of my own opinion - it does not imply an endorsement, nor does it represent the views of my employers. For those of you who have never flown or hate actually being on an airplane (but dont mind the view), I took some time to record a full take-off and landing between Manila and Seoul for your viewing pleasure... Taking off from Manila (MNL) - https://youtube/watch?v=_cddlPAZmsU Landing in Seoul (ICN) - https://youtube/watch?v=U258AUtBRxI The flying experiencing was a pleasant experience all the way around. I typically fly United and Star Alliance airlines (it makes it a whole lot easier to add up the mileage that way). I havent had any issues with United - and they actually came through with customer service a few times, so I enjoy flying with them, BUT they could use a few lessons from their sister alliance partner Asiana. :D The flight attendants were extremely courteous (and spoke multiple languages, so I had a chance to use both Korean and Japanese while on the flights). They provided hot towels for cleaning, delicious meals on every flight (even the short two-hour hop between Tokyo-Narita and Seoul-Incheon), and the on-board entertainment options were quite numerous. This was true on their Boeing 747 and Airbus A320 planes. The Airbus A320 also had a USB plug for charging my phone! I was able to play games like Pac-Man and Tetris, and I ended up tuning into a new show (for me) called Elementary, and I have to say that I have a new fun show to watch in addition to Scandal and Whose Line Is It Anyway? The food was pretty good. It was nice to enjoy some 불고기 (Korean beef) and 김치 (kimchi - oh man, I havent had kimchi in months). I ended up saving the 고추장 (the red pepper paste) so that I can enjoy it at home. One of the biggest positives about all of the flights: I didnt have to pay extra for legroom! I never felt crammed, and I always felt comfortable on the plane, even when we experienced a little bit of turbulence. It was a pleasant flight all the way around, and I look forward to flying again with Asiana in the future. I do have another trip coming up very soon, so stay tuned! I will be flying with a different airline and boarding the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner, so I definitely will be taking pictures and writing a review on that experience. Hope you have a wonderful weekend wherever you are!
