FO Fitness’ Salsa class provides an introduction to salsa dancing. Each class will start with exercises to get students moving comfortably and confidently to Salsa rhythms, transitioning into fundamental salsa footwork, basic turns, side steps, back and forth steps, etc. Approaching partner work in a way that is fun and respectful to each individual, this class features popular figures in their most basic form and the foundation of Salsa on 1 style. Level I: Beginners - will introduce partnering technique for each figure while promoting creativity and improvisation, showing you how to recombine the figures in different ways to develop each individual style. Students will also learn the history and culture of salsa music and dance as well as salsa etiquette, and partner safety, giving you everything you need to get out on the dance floor! Level II: Intermediate - will use different turn patterns to demonstrate essential leading and following techniques necessary for non-verbal communication on the dance floor. Leaders will learn how to execute figures with the appropriate signals, timing, and momentum. Followers will learn how to respond rapidly to these signals with the appropriate body resistance and speed. The goal of this aspect of the course is to facilitate clear and seamless social dancing with a variety of dance partners. The turn patterns demonstrated in each class will change, but the skills emphasized will remain the same. The instructors will also present variations in styling that can be used with each figure. Overall, both leaders and followers are expected to develop a social dancing technique that is comfortable, effective, and impressive.
