FOCUS DELTA 2015. AMORI SAYS URHOBOS SHOULD SHINE THEIR EYES? ON OMO AGEGE? Migwo Ose, WE WILL NOW. By ENA OFUGARA As it is Amori himself, the one who took a wealthy James Onanefe Ibori and used the resources to make him governor, that has asked us to shine our eyes, we have no choice but to obey ose. However the more we shine our eyes, the more we see that our conclusion varies from his. He has asked us as Urhobos to support Omo Agege. And that ALL deltans should drop their ambitions for his. LIKE REALLY?????? I do not know Omo Agege much. I do not listen to rumours of his stay in America or this or that. NO WAY. He seems a young ambitious man and I respect his father and he himself and his achievements. But every move he has made has indeed made every true Urhobo son and daughter wrinkle our nose. 1. URHOBO PROGRESSIVE FORUM (UPF) vs Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) The problem of the Urhobos have been a lack of unity and cohesion. Our neighbours, the Itsekiris by vrtue of their homogenity have had their Chiefs like Nana, Dore-Numa, Festus Okotie-Eboh as well as their Olus claim to be Overlords of Urhoboland even when there is no historical evidence of the supremacy of any of the symbiotic tribes of Ijaw Urhobo and Itsekiri. And indeed because of the Balkanization of the Urhobos and their clan culture, the Itsekiri made and make headway still as pertains getting advantages over their more populous neighbours. Indeed 100 united men are more powerful than a thousand disunited men and that has been the case of Urhobos in Delta state. A group of young men named Mowoe, Salubi and a few others rose in defense of Urhobos when the Itsekiri kings said they ruled over all lands end in only where the Obas start. That was when these young Urhobo heroes and sadly FORGOTTEN LEGENDS came together and financed the Sapele court case that kept Sapele as Okpe land. Else the Olu of The Itsekiris would have been Olu of Sapele as well. It is this UPU (Urhobo progressive Union) that fought saying the Urhobo hinterland had no secondary school and as such had Government college sited in Ughelli as well as Urhobo College Effurun which together produced the first set of Urhobo educated boys and in droves. Thus all of our ekuoto and ebruto mentality of division was seriously reduced with the actions of these men MOWOE, SALUBI (i say the names with awe and capitals so Urhobos remember) And then Amori and co came with Urhobo Progressive Forum. I was in Sapele when I saw the ad on TV and that they were launching it in Sapele Athletic club. That day I said to myself ARE URHOBOS NOT DIVIDED ENOUGH? The UPU that we should be encouraging our youths to be more in tune with considering the role they have played through Urhobo history, instead by virtue of the new power IBORI/ODIDIKPOISM had brought Chief Amori, the first thing he thought of was to reduce the power of UPU and balkanize Urhobos or in his opinion, unite them under him...under his platform, divisive as it certainly was/is. Today we have General Aziza leading Urhobo Kings to see the President and tomorrow I am sure Omo-Agege will be leading another set of Urhobos to meet the president, showing yet again Urhobos can be discountenanced as they cannot ever present a united indivisible front. I said it then that the UPF exists in counter-position to Urhobo interest and that Amori seeing Urhobo Kings will not bow to his rulership, seeing UPU was filled with too many achievers and old money to be swayed by his nouveau riche overlordship decided to set up UPF. And its first task was seeing that Urhobos did not produce Iboris successor. I am not one who believes Urhobo must produce the governor. No. Then I am no differet from the Fulanis whom I endlessly citicize. Neither do I accept the logic....ILLOGIC that since the Delta Ibos have the capital, then they cannot produce the governor. That is standing logic on its head. So because Bini has the capital of Edo state then only Esan should produce the governor? So having a state capital should estop one from being governor? It makes no sense and it is an Urhobo rhetoric I do not accede to. Yet, when Urhobos marched as one behind Ogboru, when a loss would keep us out of the mainstream and it was ALL OR NOTHING, UPF....Amori ensured it was NOTHING for Urhobos. His Omo-Agege was immediately recruited to enter the race and see what damage he could do to a united Urhobo vote. Amori himself ensured Uduaghan won his Ethiope LGA. SO MUCH FOR URHOBO UNITY which Amori is today singing. Now I have given Omo-Ageges people about a month to convince us as Urhobos why we should support him AS AN URHOBO and their defense has been piss-poor. None has been able to tell us exactly what Omo-Agege a PDP member was doing in ACN and running when it was obviously a two horse race as it has always been between Ogboru and Ibori or Ogboru and Uduaghan. None has told us why even before the elections dust had settled, Omo-Agege has conceded victory to Uduaghan. None has told us how Uduaghans first appointments included Omo-Ageges deputy governor and, his footsoldiers. None has explained the need for a UPF to exist when we already have the UPU in place and working for us. WHY THE CONTINUED BALKANIZATION? Many believe with the antecedents of UPF and Omo-Agege, that he is starting early so as to garner enough Urhobo votes and when the chips is down follow the script of Iboris and Uduaghan (however fair, however laudable) to hand the governorship to Anioma. I dare Amori and Omo Agege to tell Urhobos today that if Uduaghan and Ibori say it should be Okowa, that they will go another direction. I dare them to tell us they will disobey Ibori and Uduaghan. So why are they trying to deceive us if they will follow a script decided by Ibori himself? And if Ibori in fairness says Anioma as he said Itsekiri last time, why are they acting like they will insist on Urhobo governor when we know they will not? Even if we remove Ibori and Uduaghan from the equation, DOES CHIEF AMORI AND OMO-AGEGE DESERVE TO TELL URHOBOS TO VOTE OMO-AGEGE BECAUSE HE IS URHOBO? DID HE SUBJUGATE HIS PERSONAL AMBITION (even if he claims to have run genuinely and not as a plant against Urhobo block votes) TO THE INTEREST OF URHOBOS AT THAT TIME? WHY SHOULD ANYONE THEREFORE BE ASKED TO ABANDON THEIRS FOR HIM??WHY?????? It is my position that with the advent of a likely free and fair election, that Deltans be allowed to pick their best candidate and if it be Omo-Agege, all well and good. But Oga Amori should not tell us to vote Omo-Agege as if he has ever had Urhobo interest at heart. Amori asked us to shine our eyes and we have. What we see leaves us shaking our heads and saying EJO!!!! In case he reads this as I know he will, OSE MIGWO. But Urhobos deserve to know the truth. Over to you, DOES OMO AGEGE DESERVE TO HAVE URHOBOS SUPPORT HIM??? YOUR SAY.
