FOLKS: Meet Malik Bryant, a young thirteen year old boy who wrote the following request to Santa this past year: I just want to be safe. Wow! But the story does not end here, and if I am a betting man, it wont end with what I am about to add. When Michele DiGiacomo, CEO of DirectEffect, the organization who collected requests from kids in Englewood Elementary, she took the initiative to forward along the letter to Chicago Representative, Mike Quiqley (D-IL) who then forwarded the letter along to the President of the United States. And, THAT is where things got interesting as the President responded as follows: I want to offer a few words of encouragement. Each day, I strive to ensure communities like yours are safe places to dream, discover, and grow. Please know your security is a priority for me in everything I do as President. If you dare to be bold and creative, work hard every day, and care for others, I’m confident you can achieve anything you imagine … and I will be rooting for you.” Nothing in the above response could remotely be considered controversial as the President encourages the child to be bold, creative, and to work hard every day while caring for others, adding you can achieve ANYTHING you imagine, and I will be rooting for you. I repeated those words for a reason: one would be hard pressed to find anything controversial in the Presidents actions and response to this child, right? I am waiting for the conservative punditry to explode in 3, 2, 1....... I will be more than willing to predict someone will make mention of this incident from the conservative circle criticizing the incident. You say, wow! You are pretty negative, Mark. Nope!
