FOOD FOR THOUGHT -I feel compelled to share - if you want to get ahead you MUST do MORE than what is expected of you! Doing the bare minimum will get you by but it wont help you get ahead and if it is job related it probably wont allow you to stay around for long.... DO YOU WANT TO BE AVERAGE OR EXTRAORDINARY!? It can be as simple as cleaning a horse stall.... If you are hired to clean a stall but the alleyway is dirty too....dont leave it - sweep the alleyway too! If you only do what you think someone expects you to do you will never get anywhere! Just because someone didnt TELL YOU TO DO IT doesnt mean you shouldnt do it. When I was a kid I babysat neighbors for extra money....not only did I babysit (which was what I was hired to do) I planned activities for the kids I babysat for and brought them with me (it was fun for me and them and they loved it), and I cleaned the kitchen, and anything else up that was messed in the house. The parents loved it and often gave me extra $ and praise for such acts. I learned at an early age (even from a little neighborhood babysitting job) that doing more than what people expect from you was a good thing. It seems these days people do the bare minimum then wonder why they dont ever get ahead. Ask yourself if you are doing more than what your boss/parent/coach whatever the case expects or are you doing the bare minimum only what they ask? I feel I was taught this at a young age - I had parents with an extraordinary work ethic and they passed it onto us... I feel many young people now a days dont get it! (including my own child at times but Lord knows Im trying to teach him!) IF WE TRULY WANT TO EXCEL AT SOMETHING AND ADVANCE WE HAVE TO GO THE EXTRA MILE its not up to anyone but you!! If you want money in your pocket - you gotta work for it!! If you want to keep getting paid by someone you have to do what is expected of you!! If you want to keep that job and advance you have to go the extra mile!! Try doing something extra - that you were not ASKED to do - you may be pleasantly surprised by the results! :-)
