FOOD FOR THOUGHT: I had a brief conversation with my 13 year old son tonight as he was fretting over ordering his dinner at a local restaurant. He said he eats and eats but still feels hungry. We discussed that it may partially be because hes 13 and growing like a weed! Then I went one step further and told him that perhaps the foods hes eating arent nourishing his body. While hes not a terrible eater by 13 year standards, he does eat more junk food than he probably needs. I explained that since these foods are not nutrient dense, they leave his body craving more real food. If you are struggling with a similar dilemma and cannot seem to fill up, look at the foods youre eating. Are they nutrient dense or are they junk food that carry no fiber, nutrients just empty calories? If its the latter, no worries. Do an experiment to see if eating more nutrient dense foods help to satisfy you and keep you feeling fuller, longer.
