FOOD FOR THOUGHT: On a hot August day in 1963, some 250,000 marched into D.C. expecting to witness an instance of profound social and political reform. Instead, Martin Luther King, Jr. placed his written speech aside and challenged the world to dream with him. Naturally, some were disappointed to hear our leaders were chasing dreams rather than a carefully articulated agenda, but bear with me... Dr. King knew that change was a process, not an instance. He knew, because he had first embraced this process within himself. He replaced his doubts with desires, his fears with love. Uncertainty with trust. The seeds of change were planted in a dream that was bigger than those limitations which had held it captive for so long. Once the roots were established, not even Martin Luther King himself could stand in the way of his dream. I too have a dream that we will all live in awareness of ourselves and one another. I dream that we will dissolve those imaginary barriers which separate us from our essence and hold us victim to that which no longer serves us. I dream that we will see our challenges as opportunities to utilize our individual talents and gifts. To be that change we wish to see in the world. I dream will have more meaningful relationships with others and ourselves- that we will see no contribution as being too little or too impossible. If you too know that a better world starts with a better you, and you want someone to make that journey with you, I would love, so much, to be that person. This May, I will be officially certified as a life coach. The positive changes I am experiencing are beyond what I had imagined when this dream first started nudging me to acknowledge its existence.
