FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Opened Eyes Read 2 Kings 6:1 through 8:29 For thirty years, Peter fasted and prayed for his father’s salvation. He took every opportunity to witness to his father. He felt like a failure. Why could he not persuade his father? Perhaps Peter was taking on too much responsibility for his father’s salvation. After all, it is the Holy Spirit who opens men’s eyes to see God in all His glory. After they entered the city, Elisha said, “Lord, open the eyes of these men so they can see.” Then the Lord opened their eyes and they looked, and there they were, inside Samaria (2 Kings 6:20). The Holy Spirit had blinded the Arameans, led them into captivity, and then opened their eyes again. How shocking to realize their predicament. Yet, Elisha commanded the king to feed them and release them. Those marauders learned from their close call and stopped raiding Israel. Peter’s dad finally turned to Christ on the day he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. His eyes popped open, and he joyfully fell in love with Jesus! Challenge for Today: Faithfully sow the seed but remember this: God is the great Harvester.
