FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Relationship with God Read Leviticus 1:1 through 4:35 We were created to enjoy a close relationship with God, but sinfulness developed a barrier to that relationship. God’s love works to breach this barrier. “You are to lay your hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be accepted on your behalf to make atonement for you” (Leviticus 1:4). God’s desire for relationship has always made a way to break sin’s barrier. In Leviticus the sacrifices were that means. The worshipper placed his hand on the sacrifice, symbolizing a transfer of sin. Through the sacrifice, worshippers showed their trust in God because their farming culture was sustained through the very breeding stock God demanded they sacrifice. God’s intent was that the worshippers show their dependence on God. The varied possibilities in offerings allowed for any worshipper to have access to God. The purpose of trusting God for our future continues. By accepting Jesus as our one, eternal Sacrifice, we accept God’s provision for unhindered relationship with us. Thought for Today: Relationship with God provides for all our tomorrows.
