FOOD FOR THOUGHT “The whole history of the progress of human liberty shows that all concessions yet made to her August claims have been born earnest struggle. If there is no struggle, the is no progress. Those who profess to favour freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without ploughing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did it never will. Men may not get all pay for in this world, but they must certainly pay for all they get. If we ever free from the oppressions and wrongs heaped upon us, we must pay for their removal. We must do this by labour, by suffering, by sacrifice, and if need be, by our lives and the lives of others. It is crystal clear that the society is capable out and willing to reward those individuals who do not forcefully condemn it - to reward them with prestige, status and material benefits. But these crumbs of co-optation should be rejected. The overriding, all important fact is that as a people, we have absolutely nothing to lose by refusing to play such games.”
