FOODIES: Today were doing our periodic % Excess Body Weight Lost poll. I do this periodically so that we have another measure besides the scale to track our progress! Heres how you calculate the percentage of your excess body weight (i.e. how much you had to lose) that youve lost. Step One: Subtract your starting weight (whatever you consider that to be) from your goal weight (whatever you consider that). The result is your excess body weight (EBW). (Example: My starting weight was 330. If my goal was 160, then my EBW would be 170 lbs.). Step Two: Go to percentagecalculator.net/ and go to the second row. In the first box put the amount of weight youve lost SO FAR. In the second box put your EBW (from step one). Press calculate. The result is the % of your excess weight that youve lost. If you feel so inclined, share your number. If not, at least now you know! NOTE: Bariatric surgeons generally consider a loss of 50% or more of EBW a WLS success. :)
