FOR ANYONE WHO DIDNT SEE YESTERDAYS PAPER, THERE WILL BE SOME SHAKE UPS IN THE 2015-2016 SCHOOL YEAR. HERE IS THE ARTICLE: MARTINS FERRY - The Martins Ferry City School District will be seeing some changes in leadership of the school buildings in 2015 and saying farewell to some retiring staff. Jeff Oberdick, principal at Martins Ferry High School, will retire effective Jan. 30. Superintendent Dirk Fitch noted that Oberdick has more than 30 years of experience with the district. Hes spent his career at Martins Ferry, he said, noting that he had worked closely with Oberdick during the years, including time as his assistant. Couldnt find a better boss and a better educator and a better man. As of Feb. 2, James Fogle will take on the role of high school principal with a two-year contract. Fogle had served as the elementary school principal. He has outstanding credentials. Hes led a building thats been a school of promise for the last three years. We know hes excited about the job and look forward to him doing an outstanding job for us, Fitch said. Larry Mamone was named elementary principal. Robert Dalton will take on the post of middle school assistant principal, also effective Feb. 2. Well be making some moves in our administrative staff, Fitch said. Two new administrators who I believe are going to do a fantastic job for us and be part of a very strong administrative team. The board also accepted Fitchs retirement effective the end of June. The board will re-hire him with a two-year contract. I thank them for that. I thank them for their faith in me, he said. Theyve allowed me to be part of a fantastic group of educators up here and I look forward to continuing. In other matters, effective May 31, 2015, Bonnie Beetham with retire as the fourth grade teacher, Cheryl Bruney will retire as a second grade teacher, Marsha Carey will retire as a high school intervention specialist, Joe Ellis will retire as a high school art teacher, Etta Millhouse will retire as a high school intervention specialist, Sheryl Stankovich will retire as a first grade teacher, Mary Stinoski will retire as a seventh grade teacher effective May 29, Diana Twardoski will retire as a high school French teacher, and Walt Warren will retire as an elementary music teacher. Fitch noted that this will exempt all from the OTES evaluations. A lot of folks are retiring, and were going to miss them all. Theyre all great people. Great educators, he said, noting that many were nearing retirement and most have been at the district for most of their careers. Itll be our loss, but well spend the time and try to get the best replacements for them that we can. He added that the district will go through the bid process and hire possibly four or five teachers. Were like everybody else in the state of Ohio. Thisll be a big turnover year for most school districts, he said. Fitch added that most of the teaching staff has been evaluated using through OTES. The board approved stipend pay for certified teachers. The board also approved the transfer of the 022 playoff balance of $2,470.40 to the 300 athletic fund. The board approved Donna Joseph as a substitute teacher. The board will also consider increasing substitute teacher pay by $5. The board also approved several new and revised policies.
