FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4 September 2013 Contact: Xena Eriksen, xeriksen@gmail, 919-508-7348 The Young Democrats of North Carolina officially announce a “Bootstraps Tour” to be held on Saturday, September 7 2013. The tour will highlight what the General Assembly and our Governor could do to help working-class and poor North Carolinians pull themselves up. Young Democrats chapters in counties from Macon to New Hanover will be participating. A caravan of YDNCs will travel across the state – from Franklin to Fort Fisher. The tour will also address how the General Assembly’s “false austerity” hurts poor and working-class North Carolinians. The Republican General Assembly’s budget kills public and private jobs while increasing the tax burden for the working poor. “There has never been a more important time to highlight increasing poverty across our state,” said YDNC National Committeeman Justin Conley. “We are very aware that systemic changes need to be made if there is going to be an end to hunger in our county, our country or in the world. We encourage everyone who cares about the issues of hunger to follow legislative actions that will help or hurt the plight of the poor in our communities.” Please join us on September 7 as North Carolinians of all ages come together across the state and ask Republicans in Raleigh to give us back our bootstraps! The Wake County Young Democrats will have an event volunteering at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s Urban Ag Center, at 500 Hoke st. Raleigh, NC 27601, on a community farm project in Southeast Raleigh. The event will be one of the stops for the caravan. It will start at 4:30 We will be outside volunteer on community farming plots. There will be speaker from YDNC and the community in Southeast Raleigh. This event will be unique in that emerging inner-city activist will get a chance to tell their stories! In the event that it rains Saturday, September 7 at 4:30 we will move the event to the North Carolina Democratic Party Headquarters at 220 Hillsborough Street Raleigh, NC 27603. Founded in 1928, The Young Democrats of North Carolina (YDNC) is the oldest Young Democrats chapter in America and the founding chapter of Young Democrats of America. The vision of the Young Democrats of North Carolina is to make North Carolina a better place by promoting its issues, its young people, and the spirit of the Democratic Party. WE BELIEVE in the American values of freedom, fairness, equality, and social justice. We believe the Democratic Party at its best embodies these values, and the Young Democrats of North Carolina exists to advance these principles and give the youth of North Carolina a vehicle for progressive change.
