FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 13, 2013 Contact: David Feehan, Interim Executive Director (202) 288-0528 Joey Vallarian, Board Chair (412) 393-4606 REVAMPED, REENERGIZED BLOOMFIELD DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION READY TO SERVE PITTSBURGH’S BEST NEIGHBORHOOD PITTSBURGH – Fourteen new board members and four new board officers all with a renewed energy for improving Bloomfield has the revamped Bloomfield Development Corporation (BDC) hitting the ground running with some exciting new initiatives. “We have recruited a great roster of business owners and residents to the new board, and everyone is very excited about the direction this organization is taking,” said board chair Joey Vallarian. “With Dave Feehan’s invaluable leadership as interim executive director, there’s a renewed energy for the new initiatives planned. It’s an exciting time to be part of the BDC.” One of the first tasks the organization is undertaking is a day of cleaning the Liberty Avenue business district in preparation for the upcoming Little Italy Days, scheduled for August 22-25. “Even though the BDC isn’t operating the festival, we felt it necessary to help get the neighborhood ready to put its best face forward for the many visitors,” said David Feehan, interim executive director. “We know how important this festival is to the businesses and residents of Bloomfield.” Two of the more exciting initiatives the organization will be undertaking over the next year are a new holiday lighting event that will go throughout the neighborhood, as well as the establishment of a Saturday Market, which will combine a farmer’s market and much more. “Long term, we want to take a look at the public realm along the business district including regular street cleaning, sidewalk improvements, façade improvements, and business recruiting and retention,” said Vallarian. “But that just scratches the surface of what we can accomplish!” Below is the list of the new board makeup for the organization: Joey Vallarian – Board Chair Resident (Duquesne Light Company) Clarence Jackson – Vice Chair PNC Bank Nancy Graham – Treasurer Citizens Bank Shelly Majcen – Secretary City Planning Department Nicolle Capozzi Boxheart Gallery Moira Harrington Tessaro’s Restaurant Christy Howell Resident Hoon Kim Fukuda Restaurant B.J.
