FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 29, 2014 Rapid City, S.D., Mayor Sam Kooiker City Requests Interest for Human Relations Commission Mayor Sam Kooiker would like to encourage citizen interest to serve on the Human Relations Commission. Currently, the Commission is looking to fill one vacant three (3) year term position. Per the Ordinance, due regard will be given to racial and ethnic minorities as well as members of the business community who have a favorable reputation for skill, knowledge, and experience in the management and operation of a business enterprise. The Human Relations Commission meets the first Thursday of every month at 2:00 p.m. in the City/School Administration Center Building located at 300 Sixth Street. This is a seven (7) member commission committed to improving the quality of life for all residents by encouraging fair treatment and promoting mutual understanding and respect of parties in cases of discrimination. You must be a legal resident of Rapid City to serve on this commission. All mayoral appointments are subject to City Council confirmation. It is required that every person appointed to the Human Relations Commission shall consent to a criminal and financial background check as well as take an oath or affirmation of duty.
